Digital Retinal Exam with our Optos Daytona

Have you heard of it? You should!

Annual eye exams are vital to maintaining your vision and overall health.  Our practice offers the Optos Dayton as an important part of our eye exams. The Optos Daytona is a ultra-widefield (UWF) retinal imaging device that captures a large portion of the retina, up to 200 degrees or 82%, in a single image. It is known for its ability to image through undilated pupils (non-mydriatic) and many cataracts, offering a comprehensive view of the retina for early detection and diagnosis of various eye conditions – diseases or damage such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal tears or detachments, and other health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure can be seen with a thorough exam of the retina.

The inclusion of Optos Daytona as part of a comprehensive eye exam provides the doctor with:

• A scan to show a healthy eye or detect disease.

• A view of your retina, giving your doctor a more comprehensive view than they can get by other means.

• The opportunity to show you and discuss the Optos image of your eye with your doctor at the time of your exam.

• A permanent record for your file, which allows our doctors to view your images each year to look for changes.

Optos Daytona is fast, easy, and comfortable for anyone. The entire image process consists of you looking into the device one eye at a time. The Optos images are shown immediately on a computer screen so we can review it with you.

Guess what? On the first day that we had the Optos in operation, our doctors found 2 retinal issues that they would have only seen if the patient’s eyes had been dilated!

What To Expect

 A Typical Exam at our location

Many people skip having an annual eye exam because they don’t know what to expect. Let us shed some light on the topic.

We are always a step ahead of those other docs. With the Retinal Digital Eye Exam  in our practice, we take your comprehensive eye exam to a higher level. Our docs will have the ability to proactively detect very early signs of disease and confirm the health of our patient’s eyes.  A higher standard of care. That’s us.

During your eye exam, the optometrists on staff at Eye Care Houston, located inside the Pearle Vision Maple Grove store, might ask you questions about your general health and lifestyle to tailor the exam to your specific eye health needs. Then, he or she typically will perform an eye exam that measures:

• Your overall vision with your current contact lenses and/or glasses
• Check of your pupil reaction to detect abnormalities that could indicate various neurological conditions
• Check extraocular motility to ensure that all ocular muscles are functioning correctly
• Check peripheral vision for abnormalities
• Your color vision and depth perception based on patient’s needs
• Early indicators of potential problems, such as glaucoma, retinal issues, or cataracts
• Your general eye health – check the front of the eye for dry eye, allergic conjunctivitis and cataract; check the back of the eye by looking at the optic nerve for possible glaucoma, examine the macula for early signs of macular degeneration, and examine the blood vessels which can indicate high blood pressure.
• With dilation or with the Optos, the doctor can view the outer edges of the retina to check for detachment, breaks, or tears.
